CMJJ RANK TESTING REGISTRATION

FORMAL EVALUATION FOR STUDENTS READY TO ADVANCE

This registration is for students who have been invited by their instructor to test for the next CMJJ rank. Please review the standards below before submitting your information.

WHY A TESTING FEE EXISTS

INVESTMENT THAT PROTECTS THE STANDARD

The CMJJ rank test is a formal evaluation, not a casual promotion day. The testing fee supports the time, preparation, and resources required to maintain a consistent global standard.

EVALUATOR TIME & PREPARATION

Certified evaluators review criteria, coordinate logistics, and document results. The fee compensates for focused professional time dedicated to each testing group.

DOCUMENTATION & RANK MATERIALS

Successful candidates receive formal recognition aligned with CMJJ standards. The fee helps cover certificates, rank processing, and accurate record-keeping.

PROTECTING THE VALUE OF YOUR RANK

A formal, paid evaluation reinforces that each rank is earned, not given. This maintains the credibility of CMJJ ranks for students, parents, and instructors worldwide.

WHO SHOULD TEST

THIS TEST IS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE READY, NOT CURIOUS

Registration should only be completed after your instructor has confirmed that you meet the attendance, technical, and attitude standards for your next rank.

If you are unsure whether you should be testing, speak with your instructor before submitting this form.

  • You have been directly invited to test by a CMJJ-approved instructor.
  • You consistently demonstrate the techniques, concepts, and control required for your current curriculum level.
  • You meet your school’s minimum attendance and mat time expectations for promotion.
  • You understand that this is an evaluation, and outcomes may include passing, conditional passing, or deferment.
  • Parents and students are aligned on the commitment to training beyond the testing date.

BEFORE YOU REGISTER

INSTRUCTOR CONFIRMATION COMES FIRST

This registration page assumes your instructor has already recommended you for testing. They are responsible for confirming that:

  • You have the technical foundation required for this rank.
  • You demonstrate appropriate mat etiquette, discipline, and coachability.
  • You have met or are close to meeting the required training hours.
  • Any prior injuries or limitations have been communicated and considered.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS

Do not complete this registration if you are unclear about your readiness. Speak directly with your instructor or academy staff and ask:

“Am I ready to test at the upcoming CMJJ rank testing, and which rank am I being evaluated for?”

HOW THE TEST WORKS

CLEAR, STRUCTURED EVALUATION PROCESS

Every CMJJ rank test follows a consistent structure so students know what to expect and evaluators can apply the same standard across academies.

STEP 1

REGISTRATION & CONFIRMATION

You complete this registration form and submit the testing fee. Your instructor verifies your details and confirms your testing time and location.

STEP 2

ON-MAT EVALUATION

Students demonstrate techniques, situational responses, and controlled sparring or positional work appropriate for their level under CMJJ guidelines.

STEP 3

RESULTS & NEXT STEPS

Evaluators review performance, record outcomes, and communicate any promotions, conditions, or development priorities to the student and instructor.

TESTING OUTCOMES

RANK IS EARNED THROUGH PERFORMANCE, NOT ATTENDANCE ALONE

Testing is an honest assessment. Results reflect what is demonstrated on the mat that day, combined with the student’s overall training history and readiness.

POSSIBLE OUTCOMES

  • Full Pass: Student clearly meets or exceeds the standard for the new rank.
  • Conditional Pass: Rank is granted with specific, documented areas to address within a set time frame.
  • Deferred: Rank is not awarded at this time. Clear feedback is provided on what must improve before retesting.

WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT

  • Respectful, professional conduct from evaluators and staff.
  • Clear instructions before, during, and after the evaluation.
  • Feedback focused on growth, not comparison with other students.
  • Recognition that a deferred test is a step in development, not a failure.

In all cases, the priority is development and long-term progression, not rushing through ranks.

COMMON TESTING MISTAKES

AVOID THESE ERRORS BEFORE YOU STEP ON THE MAT

Students and parents can reduce stress and support a successful experience by understanding the most frequent issues evaluators see.

INADEQUATE PREPARATION

Relying on natural ability instead of consistent drilling of the curriculum. Students should review techniques and sequences with intention in the weeks leading up to testing.

MISUNDERSTANDING THE STANDARD

Treating the test as a formality instead of a standard. Students should know that evaluators are looking for control, understanding, composure, and repeatable skill—not just effort.

PARENT OR STUDENT PRESSURE

Prioritizing rank over learning. The healthiest approach is to view testing as a checkpoint in a long journey, not a deadline that must be met at any cost.

FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD THROUGH A SERIOUS EVALUATION

Rank testing can be a meaningful learning moment. The goal is to build resilience, focus, and respect for standards—not to create pressure or anxiety.

You can help by reinforcing effort, attendance, and attitude at home, while allowing instructors and evaluators to manage the technical standard.

  • Emphasize effort and behavior over the outcome of a single test.
  • Ensure your child arrives rested, hydrated, and with their uniform clean and complete.
  • Avoid coaching from the sidelines during the evaluation.
  • If results are deferred or conditional, help your child treat the feedback as a clear roadmap, not a setback.
  • Direct any questions about rank decisions to instructors, not to your child.

If you have concerns about your child’s readiness, contact your academy before completing this registration.
